On Thursday 15th September and Thursday 22nd September, Trixie Trishaw and McChadwick the Minibus supported Stockton Lodge Care Home to enjoy a seaside adventure in Seaton Carew.

Eight residents, supported by two members of staff and two family members, joined the CWA Team for an afternoon adventure to Seaton Carew for a fish and chips lunch followed by rides along the sea front.

Once we were safely in Seaton Carew, residents made their way to the picnic benches near the car park while care home staff organised their lunch from The Almighty Cod fish and chip shop on the Main Street. On the second trip, CWA staff provided hot drinks in sealed travel mugs for everyone who came along.

After lunch, we started with the trishaws rides. The first passengers were a married couple. The husband was soon to be celebrating his 90th birthday. We had a slow ride along the sea front to the Staincliffe Hotel, where we turned around and slowly rode back towards the large car park before returning to the group. During the ride, the soon-to-be 90-year old shared stories of his life with his wife who is living with dementia and was sitting by his side in his loving embrace. It was such a beautiful moment to be able to witness first hand.

During the next rides, the passengers spoke of their childhood memories of Seaton Carew and how they would walk from Norton to Billingham Train Station in order to board the train to Seaton Carew and then have to walk for what felt like miles in order to get to the sea front.

What are your memories of Seaton Carew?

Huge thanks to everyone at Stockton Lodge Care Home, staff and residents, for two wonderful afternoons enjoying the sea air. Hope you all slept well after the trips!
