On Saturday 26th November, the team from Cycling Without Age Stockton on Tees attended the Winterfest event at South Park, Darlington following an invitation from the local event organisers at Groundwork UK.

After dressing Trixie appropriately for the occasion with twinkling lights, jingling bells, stockings full of chocolate treats and a winter reindeer scene, we were ready to find a suitable cycling route to take in the views across the small lake and around the lit up area outside the cafe.

We set ourselves up on the footpath near to the toilet block with our information banner, donation tin and trishaw. Three team members were on hand to speak with attendees, collect donations, hand out information leaflets and provide trishaw rides.

We had the absolutely honour of transporting Santa Claus around the park, which was a great opportunity for the children to sit on Santa’s knee for a photograph and for Santa to see many attendees and wish seasons greetings. After Santa had completed his duties, we completed a lap of the main event area before dropping him back to Mrs Claus ready to take him home for something to eat.

Huge thanks to everyone who went for a ride around with park with us. During the event, we had the pleasure of taking 23 people around the park and collected £45 in donations.

Thanks to Groundwork UK for inviting us to be a part of this first Winterfest at South Psrk. We had a lovely time getting to know the people of Darlington and look forward to returning to the park in the future.
