We always talk about how the trishaw can offer a diverse range of sensory experiences for passengers, including the wind in your hair and bugs in your teeth but nothing could prepare our Pilot, Robert, for the first Reminiscence Ride we delivered.

On Thursday 2nd November, Trixie and Robert went along to Green Lodge Care Home in Billingham to meet Nicola and Bryan, our passengers for the afternoon who we were taking for a ride around Billingham.

Prior to the ride, Nicola had sent an email explaining some key streets that were important to Bryan so that we could plot a safe route for the ride but once we had our passengers on board, we left Bryan in charge of the directions as we took him for a trishaw ride down memory lane.

During the ride, we were able to take Bryan by his childhood home, his school and many of the streets where he had a paper round.

Unfortunately, due to the torrential rain which struck not long after we set off, we had to cut the ride short for health reasons and safety reasons but, weather aside, the experience of supporting someone to revisit meaningful places while sharing their memories from years gone by was a very heart-warming experience on a cold and wet day.

Get in touch if you would like to arrange a reminiscence ride for your family member, friend or care home residents and we will see what we can do.
