On Monday 20th June, Trixie Trishaw was introduced to the staff and residents at Park House Rest Home.
After a quick chat with Angela, the activities coordinator, we were taken into the rear entrance and gardens to meet some more staff and residents. We quickly loaded up our first two passengers and took them for a ride around nearby Ropner Park.
During our visit, we took 10 people out for a ride up to and around Ropner Park, including members of the management team, who noticed an improvement in communication with one of the passengers who rarely speaks in the care home but chatted the whole way around the park! We also took out two sisters to enjoy some special time together.
Most passengers had lived locally most of their lives and noted how much the park had changed in their lifetime and how they spent time their when their children were young. It was great spending time with people, enjoying the fresh air and the simplicity of nature, reminiscing and feeling the wind in our hair without feeling rushed.
We hope to be back at Park House soon.
