On Sunday 9th October, Trixie Trishaw was in Hartlepool on the promenade near Elephant Rock in the Headland for Hartlepool Borough Council’s Dino Day.

T-Rex Passenger Rode on Trixie Trishaw

We arrived in the Headland and made our way to the Heugh Battery Museum, where some kind members of the public pointed us in the right direction. We rode down onto the promenade and quickly found members of Hartlepool Borough Council and a number of families all taking part in a range of different games and activities related to dinosaurs.

One of the team members was dressed in an inflatable dinosaur costume and she quickly came over and offered to ride on the front of the trishaw so that we could offer the children a ride with a dinosaur. This got a lot of interest from the families and we quickly found ourselves riding around on the promenade near to Elephant Rock with our very own T-Rex and dinosaur related sound effects playing through the phone speaker.

In order to fire up the trishaw, passengers were encouraged to give their loudest dinosaur roar (adults very much included) and, where parents wanted them, encouraged to do their best dinosaur pose for pictures.

The circuit was quite short, going from the seating area near the games, heading straight towards to seafront before taking a slow but late turn to the right so we could enjoy views out across the sea. This was times quite well with the sound effect of Pterodactyls screeching so we could ask passengers to look out at sea for any flying dinosaurs hunting for food and, with a bit of imagination, the seagulls became quite scary! Just where the promenade narrowed to a footpath, we turned right again along the rough-faced rocks and this was times nicely with the sound effect of sleeping dinosaurs so we crept quietly passed the dinosaurs snoozing somewhere in the rocks. Finally, we turned right at the access ramp and headed back towards waiting families and the main activities while the sound of dinosaurs roaring projected from the phone speaker.

Over the course of the event we took 40 people of all ages for rides around the short circuit on the promenade. One younger passenger commented that the trishaw ride was like being on a rollercoaster but without going upside down, while another happily told us it was the best part of their day!

Thank you to everyone who rode with us, spoke with us, and shared your favourite dinosaur with us. Turns out, everyone loves a T-Rex!

Huge thanks to the team at Hartlepool Borough Council who reached out and invited us along to be a part of this event. We learned so much about different spaces in the Borough where we could try to find some routes for Trixie and we really look forward to seeing you all again soon.
